TGF-β is an important subtype of cytokines and can affect cell growth, cell differentiation, apoptosis, as well as maintain cell steadiness. TGF-β1 is very important for control of the immune system, and shows different activities in different cell types and during different stages of development. Most immune cells (or leukocytes) can secrete TGF-β1.

Targeting strategy:

Most immune cells (or leukocytes) can secrete TGF-β1.

Phenotypic characteristics: Reports show that Tgfb1tm1Doe mutated homozygous mice develop normally, but die two to three weeks after birth. To overcome this defect, we prepared B-TGFb1 cKO mice. These mice homozygotes grow normally and are fertile. The mice are normal in figure and size without any physical or behavior defects. If these mice mate with mice expressing Cre, the second exon of Tgfb1 in tissues expressing Cre will be deleted in the offspring, and neo resistance on the inner side of loxp site will be deleted. When the mice mate with those expressing Flp, only the neo gene on the inner side of the frt site can be removed.
