Description

Ldlr KO rats were developed using targeted TALEN technology in the Sprague-Dawley strain. This model possesses a 2 bp deletion within Exon 1 of Ldlr on chromosome 8. This strain was maintained by mating homozygous males with homozygous females on a Sprague-Dawley genetic background.

Targeting Strategy

Model validation

Homozygous Ldlrtm1/Bcgen rats demonstrate significantly elevated serum cholesterol levels at 4 months of age.
